Quality of Resident Life is an undesignated fund for the area of greatest need.

Because of the Quality of Resident Life grants program we were able to purchase an Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED).  Recent studies have shown that in the event of a cardiac arrest, early cardiac defibrillation results in more lives saved, and the length of time needed to get someone to a hospital for this treatment is often the difference between life and death.

I am not only grateful for the generosity of the Philanthropy Committee in awarding this grant, but also proud of their foresight in providing emergency services for the greater Horizon House community.

Residents Assistance is for those who have exhausted their financial resources.  “Patsy” was born and reared in Seattle, attended state university and spent her adult years raising three children, boating in the Puget Sound, playing bridge, and reading books.  She could not anticipate that the cost of health care would sky rocket.  But it did.  Residents Assistance helped to assure that her end of life reflected her earlier experiences.  Her son expressed his feelings shortly after her death.

Mom could not have had a better home for the past few years than Horizon House.  My wife and I hope we can find such a nurturing place for our last 8 years.  Our family deeply appreciates all the staff did to make Mom happy during her time there.

Employee Development provides professional training for our staff. In 2007, twenty-three hard-working adults, struggling to hold down full-time jobs and manage families, committed to participate in the Employee Development Program and go to school in an effort to better themselves.  A janitor earned his Bachelor of Arts degree; a nursing assistant began studies to be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); and an LPN prepared to be a Registered Nurse (RN) – all because of this Program.
